Homeschool and Travel Tips
How to Plan Travel with Kids
Jared and I had been married 12 years when we went on our first cruise. Those 12 years gave us a lot of insight into the highs and lows of traveling with kids, primarily in the form of road trips around the United States. I had a good idea by then of what I loved about traveling with our kids, what I loathed, and what I felt was missing. Here are a few things that I realized along the way -
How do you plan for a cruise?
One of the reasons that I love to cruise is because it is an all-inclusive experience, which takes the burden of planning a vacation off of the customer. And while it is the case that the cruise lines do most of the planning for you, there is some planning that travelers have to keep in mind when booking a cruise.
Let’s break down how planning a cruise works and how that impacts the cost of your cruise…
How do we choose the Homeschool Cruise each year?
Ever wonder how we choose the cruise each year? Here’s a look into the process that we go through when choosing the Homeschool Cruise :)
Each year, when we are looking at choosing a cruise, we typically look for the following things - sailings in January or February, out of easily accessible ports, on ships that are both family- and budget-friendly, that visit interesting ports in the Caribbean.
What Does a Cruise Cost?
I often get the question “What does a cruise cost?,” and it’s a great question! The cruise fare itself is what the cruise line charges you to book the cruise. Beyond that, the only things you absolutely have to budget for are gratuities (which the cruise line will charge you) and traveling to and home from the departure port.
What makes a Homeschool Cruise different from any other cruise?
What makes a homeschool cruise different from any other cruise? Imagine combining the excitement of travel with meaningful educational experiences designed just for homeschool families. From guided excursions and pre-cruise lesson plans to connecting with like-minded parents and kids, a homeschool cruise blends learning and adventure in a way no other vacation can. Discover why families keep coming back year after year—and why this might be the perfect getaway for your homeschool journey.
Traveling Intentionally as a Family
This week on social media we shared some thoughts about traveling with children and how we plan Homeschool Cruises in a way that we can be more intentional with our learning as we travel. Let’s take a look!
What Our Families are Saying…

“My family and I have been on 3 of the 4 homeschool cruises so far. I just happened across a post on Facebook and thought "Oh, that sounds fun!" We had never cruised prior to these trips.
With Homeschool Cruises we have cruised out of Galveston, Port Canaveral, and this year we chose New Orleans.
We love the curriculum Meghan puts together for each trip and we love getting together and hanging out with other homeschool families on the ship and in the ports. It's really just so fun learning about another country then actually going and seeing what we learn about first hand. Nothing beats a hands on experience. Plus, it's really no more expensive than a condo on the beach for a week and we get SO much more than "just a beach trip".
It's been great for my kids to see kids from other states that homeschool. We have a very small homeschool community where I live and with these trips they get to see we're not "the only families that homeschool".
Meghan is great about answering all my questions (and I have LOTS of questions). She's very helpful and if she doesn't know something she finds the answer quickly.
She always does the research and has great recommendations for excursions. Plus the ships she has chosen have been great for families! We really love the homeschool cruises and hope that we can do them all!”

“We love Homeschool Cruises! They are a great way to see the world with our kids because it takes so much of the stress of travel away. And you can’t beat the price!”

“We had a great time on the Homeschool Cruise. Meghan made everything so easy by having all the logistics planned out and choosing a cruise that would be fun for all ages. Having room service and meals taken care of made it feel like a real vacation—we didn’t have to worry about a thing.”
